Addressing Bias Incidents, Crimes, and Complaints

If you are the victim of a crime

If you believe you are the victim of a crime, contact the Cornell Police and, if appropriate, other local police agencies immediately, so that the matter can be addressed and support services made available.

If you are a victim of bias / discrimination

If you believe you have been subjected to discrimination in violation of University Policy 6.4 Prohibited Discrimination, Protected Status (Including Sexual) Harassment, and Bias Activity or have been the target of activity that you believe constitutes a violation of the Campus Code of Conduct, contact the Office of Workforce Policy and Labor Relations (WPLR) at equalopportunity@cornell.edu, (607) 254-7232. You may also contact the Bias Response Program or any of the following officials:

These university officials will promptly (generally within 24 hours) review the allegations and determine if the information should more appropriately be referred for investigation to another university office, including to the Cornell Police.

For sexual violence or assault, contact Cornell University Police at (607) 255-1111.

If you are not sure which procedures to use

If you believe that you or other members of the university community have been adversely affected by instances involving bias but you are not sure which complaint procedure to use (or the bias is not necessarily directed against a particular individual - e.g., graffiti, postering, etc.), report your concern to the Office of Workforce Policy and Labor Relations at equalopportunity@cornell.edu or (607) 254-7232. An FAQ that may be helpful is found at http://hr.cornell.edu/diversity/reporting/harassment_discrimination.html.
