Diversity In The Community
In addition to addressing diversity and inclusiveness within its campus community, Cornell is actively working to assist with addressing diversity issues outside of the university.
The Tompkins County Diversity Consortium hosted a community-wide round table to begin a dialogue on addressing diversity and inclusiveness.
- Since November of 1999, Cornell University has been the coordinator of the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs Industry Liaison Group for the Central/Western New York region. The Central/Western New York Industry Liaison Group was organized in the fall of 1999 to serve as a consultative resource to central and western New York industries, for-profit organizations, and not-for-profit organization members in areas related to equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, and diversity.
- Cornell also has been involved with the Tompkins County Diversity Consortium, which includes employers and non-profit organizations committed to addressing diversity issues throughout the county. The consortium’s mission is to be a catalyst to enhance awareness, networking, support, and best practices of diversity and its benefits as an essential part of organizational success. Its primary objectives are to cultivate a continuous learning environment, promote a positive community image, and serve as a liaison for diversity resources. Monthly meetings provide members the opportunity to nurture inter-organizational relationships and professional dialogue. The Diversity Consortium strives through tangible actions to improve the workplace.
- Cornell University also has worked with the City of Ithaca Workforce Diversification Advisory Committee to implement a plan for addressing diversity issues within the city.
