Kyle Dake ’13
2013 Sports Illustrated Male College Athlete of the Year

Volunteer Staff, Division of Student and Academic Services

“I fell in love with wrestling. I knew that if I put in 100 percent all the time, I was going to get the result I wanted.”

Unprecedented Success

Kyle Dake’s Big Red wrestling career is one of the most illustrious in the history of intercollegiate athletics.

The inaugural Sports Illustrated Male College Athlete of the Year in 2013, Dake finished with a collegiate record of 137-4, including winning his final 79 matches. A development sociology major and a four-time Academic All-American, Dake is the first NCAA wrestler to win national titles in four different weight classes, the first to win four national titles without taking a redshirt season, and just the third wrestler to claim four national titles. The 2013 Hodge Award national Wrestler of the Year, Dake is a three-time Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Wrestler of the Year. The Outstanding Wrestler of the 2013 NCAA tournament, he is the third Cornell wrestler to capture the award and the first since Dave Auble in 1960.

A volunteer wrestling coach at Cornell, Dake is in training for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
