David J. Skorton took office as the 12th president of Cornell University on July 1, 2006. A cardiologist, computer scientist, national leader in research ethics, and jazz musician, Skorton came to Cornell from the University of Iowa, where he served as president since 2003 and as a faculty member since 1981.

At Cornell, President Skorton holds faculty appointments in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Weill-Cornell Medical College (WCMC) in New York City and in Biomedical Engineering at the College of Engineering on the Ithaca campus.
