Robert T. Blakely III
ROBERT T. BLAKELY III (BME '63, MBA '65 Cornell; PhD '70 MIT) is executive vice president and chief financial officer of MCI in Ashburn, Virginia. He served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Lyondell Chemical Company of Houston, Texas, from 1999 to 2002. From 1982 to 1999, Mr. Blakely was chief financial officer of Tenneco Inc., most recently as executive vice president. From 1970 to 1981, he worked for Morgan Stanley & Co., Inc. leaving as managing director, and served as vice president and chief financial officer in 1981 at U.S. Synthetic Fuels Corporation of Washington, DC. He served as a member of the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Board of Visitors, and the Advisory Council to the Financial Accounting Standards Board.
Mr. Blakely has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 1996, having been elected initially by the alumni body and subsequently by the board. Mr. Blakely currently serves on the Finance Committee (and was previously chairman, vice chairman, and co chairman); and on the Alumni Affairs and Development, and Executive Committees. He is a member of the Advisory Council of the Johnson Graduate School of Management and president of the Class of 1963. He previously served on the board's Investment, Audit, and Alumni Affairs Steering Committees. He also served on the Cornell University Council from 1990 to 1994.
