Announcing David J. Skorton, the next president of Cornell University

Paul A. Gould

PAUL A. GOULD (Agr. '67 Cornell; BS '75 Fairleigh Dickinson University) is managing director and executive vice president of Allen & Company, Inc., the securities broker/dealer and investment subsidiary of Allen Holding, Inc. He joined the firm in 1972 as a convertible bond trader. Allen & Company, although relatively small at 150 employees, has assets of more than $900 million. Unlike other Wall Street firms, Allen pays managing directors low salaries and requires them to put up their own money, providing them with the motivation to become involved in the companies in which they invest.

Mr. Gould began his first term on Cornell's Board of Trustees in 2001. He currently serves as chairman of the Investment Committee (previously as vice chairman) and as a member of the Alumni Affairs and Development, Executive, and Finance Committees and also serves on the board of directors of eCornell. He previously served on the Board of Trustees Land Grant and Statutory College Affairs Committee and as an advisor to the board's Investment Committee during 2000-01. After having several of his animals cared for by the College of Veterinary Medicine, he has served as a member of that college's Advisory Council since 1998, and is a member of the Major Gifts Committee.

Mr. Gould serves as a director for Liberty Media Group, Liberty Global, Inc., Discovery Holding Company, and Ampco-Pittsburgh Corporation. He also serves on the board of trustees for New School University, and the Wildlife Conservation Society.
