Elizabeth D. Moore

ELIZABETH D. MOORE (BS ILR '75 Cornell; JD '78 St. John's School of Law) is a partner in the law firm of Nixon Peabody LLP in its labor and employee benefits practice group. Ms. Moore specializes in employment relations counseling, including equal employment opportunity, diversity initiatives, contingent work force issues, disciplinary and grievance proceedings, privatization, work force efficiency/reduction programs, and alternative dispute resolution. She heads the firm's Preventive Services Team and provides risk assessment services to a wide array of clients. She also advises clients in the government procurement field. She previously served as counsel to the governor of New York State (the governor's chief legal advisor) and director of the governor's Office of Employee Relations. Ms. Moore is also a past chair of the New York State Ethics Commission, and she was first assistant counsel to Governor Mario Cuomo and assistant counsel to Governor Hugh Carey.

A member of the Board of Trustees since 1999, Ms. Moore serves on the Academic Affairs, Alumni Affairs and Development, and Governmental Relations (co-vice chairman 2005- ) Committees. She also serves as a member of the Alumni Affairs Steering Committee and the Subcommittee on Faculty Development. Previously, Ms. Moore served on the Subcommittee on Tenure and Named Chairs, the Trustee Task Force on Residential Communities, and the Committee on Alumni Trustee Nominations. She also chaired the Minority Alumni Initiative Implementation Committee.

Ms. Moore has been a member of the President's Council of Cornell Women since 1992. She has served on the School of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR) Advisory Council since 1989. She was a panel member at the ILR School's 40th Anniversary Celebration. In 2003, she received the Judge William B. Groat Award, the ILR School's highest alumni recognition. In 1990, the Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy presented Ms. Moore with the 6th Annual John E. Burton Award for Distinguished Public Service.

Ms. Moore received her JD degree in 1978 from St. John's University School of Law. In 1989, she received an honorary Doctor of Civil Law degree from St. John's University.
