Search for Dean of Human Ecology
About the Search Process
The search will progress through a series of open and closed phases:

- Initially, as the search committee formulate the characteristics sought in a new Dean and begins to build a deep and diverse pool of potential candidates, their work will be relatively open.
- When the search committee begins qualifying applicants and assessing the credentials of prospective dean candidates, their work will be strictly confidential.
- Once the committee narrows the pool to a set of finalists the process will become somewhat more open. The identity of the finalists to be brought to campus will be kept confidential until the candidates come to campus and even then will be kept as confidential as possible, while still allowing for an evaluation process with representative participation by all appropriate constituencies. Final candidates will still interview with individuals who are not on the search committee, but it will be left to the search committee to design and structure that participation in a way that accommodates the needs for both enhanced confidentiality and for thorough vetting of candidates.
- The final stages of the search will again be strictly confidential, as the committee considers feedback from all those who will have met with the final candidates and makes recommendations to the Provost. The Provost will make a final decision in consultation with the President, and they will jointly recommend the chosen candidate to the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees for its approval.
