Since the catastrophic Jan. 12 earthquake, many residents of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, have been forced into crowded, muddy encampments. The survivors now face flooding, inadequate housing and health care, overflowing sewage, and lack of food and clean water.

The Haitian Students Association and the Cornell Caribbean Student Association will hold a joint banquet featuring Haitian cuisine, comedy, dance and music to raise relief funds for Haiti, March 12.

The Ithaca YMCA is sponsoring a 3-on-3 basketball tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 20. Competition is open to youth 10 years old through adult masters with gender and age specific divisions. Registration deadline is March 18.
All proceeds from the event will be given to the YMCA International relief fund for Haiti.

A Discussion with Prof. Patrick Weil, Libraries Without Borders

Two months ago, a major earthquake hit Haiti, destroying hundreds of thousands of lives and most infrastructures of the capital, but also a significant portion of this poor country's cultural and educational structures.
Based on the belief that access to knowledge is a key factor in social and economic development, NGOs such as Libraries Without Borders/Bibliothèques Sans Frontières, with the support of many partners, are calling for an international effort to save the collections and to rebuild these cultural institutions. Prof. Patrick Weil will talk about these issues. He is the director of the Center for the Study of Immigration, Integration and Citizenship Policies at the University of Paris, Pantheon-Sorbonne, a former Visiting Professor at Yale Law School in 2009, and the co-founder and President of "Bibliothèques Sans Frontières/ Libraries Without Borders."
This event is co-sponsored by the French Studies Program at Cornell, the Cornell Law School, and Cornell University Library.

President Bill Clinton visited the GHESKIO clinic Feb. 5 to help begin the process of recovery and reconstruction, and to deliver relief supplies including water, food, approximately 1900 lbs of medical supplies, solar flash lights, portable radios, and generators.
