Comments on New York Governor David Paterson's 2009 State of the State Address

President David J. Skorton:

By protecting the core of the Empire State's higher education infrastructure, Gov. Paterson has astutely signaled that our children's education is key to the future of New York. He clearly understands the long-term economic advantages that higher education will provide the state. The bottom line is that New York's colleges and universities educate future leaders, generate technological innovations, spawn new businesses and create jobs. His highlighting the new energy economy is the case in point. The governor faces an extremely difficult economic situation and is facing tough choices with the state's budget. This bold and courageous move will make sure more New Yorkers will complete their education in the state, and ultimately, by living and working here make our state even stronger. Paterson made the right decision for New York.
