Cornell University regrets to announce that the person who was recovered from the Fall Creek Gorge today (Feb. 17) below the Thurston Avenue Bridge has been identified as Bradley Ginsburg, 18, a Cornell undergraduate student from Boca Raton, Fla.

A freshman economics major in the College of Arts and Sciences and a new member of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, Ginsburg was reported missing by his residence hall roommate on Tuesday night, and a search for him had been underway. He was last seen very early Tuesday morning.

Following a call to Cornell University Police at about 10:10 a.m. this morning, Ginsburg was recovered from the gorge by a rappelling team from Ithaca Fire Department, assisted by Cornell Police, Ithaca Police Department, Cornell Environmental Health and Safety and EMS, and Bangs Ambulance.

Cornell Police is leading an investigation into the cause of the fall.

"I join the Cornell community in profound sadness over the death of Bradley Ginsburg," said Cornell President David Skorton. "My heartfelt condolences go to his family and many friends. It is especially important, in this time of grief, that we reach out to one another on campus and take advantage of support services the university provides."

Community support meetings on campus are being arranged by Cornell's Dean of Students Office and Campus Life Residential Programs.
