Aimee Turner named associate vice president and controller
It is my pleasure to announce that Aimee Turner has accepted the position of Associate Vice President (AVP) and University Controller, beginning her Cornell career on October 17, 2012. As Anne Shapiro prepares to retire in December, Aimee will overlap service in this position, providing leadership for the financial accounting operations of the University. During Aimee's first year, she will be focusing on continued improvements to the Kuali Financial System's user experience and working to effect more efficient processes and policies while maintaining the integrity of internal controls.
After our rigorous nationwide search, I am very pleased that Aimee was chosen for this position and confident that we have hired a creative and energetic leader. Aimee, who comes from the J. Craig Venter Institute, where she served as Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer, has spent over 20 years in the not-for-profit research sector.
Aimee is a 1988 graduate of Frostburg State University, Frostburg, Md., with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, and a minor in Psychology, completing her degree in three years. A Certified Public Accountant, Aimee is a member of the following associations: Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants, National Grants Management Association, Association of Independent Research Institutes, and National Council of University Research Administrators.
This announcement would not be complete if I did not express my appreciation to Anne Shapiro, who currently serves as University Controller, having been with the university for almost 20 years. Anne leaves a legacy as a leader with selfless dedication to Cornell. She is noted nationally for her tax expertise, financial wisdom, energy and vibrant personality. Anne is a team player, respected by anyone who has ever worked with her. As you join me in welcoming Aimee to Cornell, please also recognize Anne and wish her a long, happy and fulfilling retirement.
