In late summer, wisteria hangs from the pergola, above, as plantings in the boxes below arch up to the sun. On a nearby knoll stands the rhododendron garden with a small shelter. At the base of the hill grows a small rock garden adorned with lichens and mosses that thrive in Ithaca.
The more than 200,000 visitors who pass through Cornell Plantations each year include students, faculty, alumni, parents, school classes, and community members. A 10-year plan to improve the Plantations is currently underway. Goals include construction of a glass conservatory and additions to the Lewis Education Center, formerly the Forest Home elementary school.
