The rooming houses which brought students to the neighborhood in the early 20th century are long gone, replaced by high-rises and apartment buildings. Yet thousands of undergraduates still call the neighborhood home, as do many of their professors.
The Collegetown bridge, above, spans Cascadilla Gorge, which divides the campus from Collegetown. A path through the woods to the right of the bridge leads to the Engineering Quad; the Law School is visible beyond the bridge. On the Collegetown side of the gorge, the white marble Schwartz Center for Performing Arts houses the Department of Theatre, Film, and Dance.
Other destinations in Collegetown include dozens of restaurants, a travel agency, two grocery stores, a bicycle shop, and plenty of night spots.
