Red-Breasted Nuthatch
Sitta canadensis

The only North American nuthatch that regularly migrates.

The Red-breasted Nuthatch is irruptive, which means it waves southward in unusually large numbers during some winters.

These irruptions may be closely tied to the extent of the cone crop in the bird's breeding area.
