The Ag Quad boasts the premier agricultural library in the United States. The art-deco Mann Library, designed in the 1930s, opened in 1952 and is currently undergoing renovations scheduled for completion in 2006. High-tech features include more than 38 miles of fiber optic cable and wireless access throughout the building.
With collections on floral arrangement that date to the 1750s and records of Chinese weather patterns stretching back 1,500 years, Mann is a repository of historical data. Yet it is also a leader in electronic access, with a preservation project to scan and digitize rare books and over 1,000 online resources totaling 400,000 megabytes. (For comparison, the novel Moby Dick would require just one megabyte.)
