Until 1930, when the university trustees provided for a swimming pool at the base of the Sackett Bridge, above, students swam below the Triphammer Falls in Fall Creek Gorge, near the power plant.
Students no longer swim in the lake due to safety concerns, though kayaking and picnicking remain popular activities. Helen Newman Hall, standing on the hill above the lake, contains an Olympic-size pool, as well as basketball courts, a fitness center, and a bowling lane.
