Women Made Visible
Arun Kundnani, deputy editor of London's Institute for Race Relations, explains the concepts of "underclass" and "global underclass" before discussing one way religion is being used to reinforce discriminations. Jane Berger, visiting fellow at Cornell University's Industrial and Labor Relations School, discusses how the modern global underclass came into being by exploring ways that global economic transformations of the late twentieth century disadvantaged poor women around the world.
International Women's Day is an annual tradition that began in New York City in 1908, when 15,000 women marched to demand improved working hours and pay and voting rights. Cornell students, community members, and Cornell faculty and administration join together to debate, discuss and learn about the hardships and challenges women face around the world.
