On March 14, 2011, more than 450 Cornellians gathered at Fox Studios in Los Angeles on March 14 for an "Early Evening with David Skorton."

The president took the opportunity to connect with the audience about his own Los Angeles roots and recognize local donors and Cornell Club of L.A. leaders. The centerpiece of the event was an interview with Skorton, conducted by screenwriter and journalist Ed Zuckerman '70.

Kevin Reilly '84, president of entertainment for Fox Broadcasting, made it possible for the event to be held at Fox Studios -- and for Jane Lynch MFA '84, whose hit show "Glee" is a Fox production, to send her own video greeting to the gathering.

Skorton set the stage for Cornell heading into its 2015 sesquicentennial, emphasizing the need for faculty hiring efforts in particular. Trustees and campaign co-chairs Steve Ashley '62 and Jan Rock Zubrow '77 opened the event and framed faculty renewal efforts as a central fundraising priority.
