Jazz pianist Jason Moran, joined by his group the Big Bandwagon, rehearse for their Sep. 20 performance of "In My Mind: Thelonious Monk at Town Hall 1959" at Cornell's Bailey Hall. The full-length, original piece, based on Thelonious Monk's legendary 1959 Town Hall concert, incorporates live music, video projections, and recorded samples. Moran has been described by Rolling Stone as "the most provocative thinker in current jazz" and by the New York Times as "a deft conceptualist, finding inspiration in the rhythm and tonality of spoken language, in film, in jazz and pop and hip-hop."

The concert was made possible by a grant from the David R. and Patricia D. Atkinson Forum in American Studies at Cornell, a program that seeks to bring to campus the best that America has to offer in the arts.
