In 2011, President Skorton issued a challenge to Cornell's Greek community to "end pledging as we know it," in particular referring to the eradication of hazing and other high-risk behaviors sometimes associated with those unacceptable traditions.

Concluding a year-long process that included work by the RARE (Recruitment, Acceptance, Retention, and Education) task force, Cornell's Greek system, one of the largest in the country with 66 chapters, will begin the process of transformative change in January of 2013.

With the goal of preserving all that is positive about the Greek experience, January will mark the beginning of a transition to a "new member orientation and total development" model.
