The issue of reforming the post-WWII structure of the UN has been a topic of discussion for 15 years now, but has been deadlocked for just as long. "We talk about democracy, but there is no democracy in the United Nations," asserted Ambassador Abdullah Hussain Haroon, Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations.

Haroon spoke at CIPA's Dec. 3 colloquium. He called for comprehensive reform that includes expansion and diversity of the Security Council, equitable geographic recognition, and the rotation of voting members within a region (as opposed to simply increasing permanent member nations).
