Each year Cornell Outdoor Education (COE) offers the experience of a lifetime - a Physical Education class climbing some of the largest trees on the planet! Just after graduation we travel to the western slope of the High Sierra mountains of California. We spend the week assisting the UC Berkeley Department of Forest Ecology with Giant Sequoia restoration and ecology research. Students learn the basics of roped tree climbing, including ascending, moving around in the canopy, and rappelling. The experience culminates with an overnight suspended in hammocks high in the canopy.
