Svetlana Alexievich: The Rise and Fall of the Russian-Soviet Dream

Nobel prize-winning journalist and nonfiction writer Svetlana Alexievich presented the 2016-17 Bartels World Affairs Fellowship Lecture at Cornell on Sept. 12. Alexievich described how she developed her unique literary style to tell the story of tragedy and preserve the history of average survivors. The lecture was delivered in Russian using projected subtitles in English. In this video, the Russian is dubbed over in English by Valzhyna Mort Hutchinson, assistant professor of English.
