Women in science must consider many issues if they wish to have children, particularly the timing of childbirth relative to the lifecourse and career trajectory of a scientist. This video explores women's decisions to have or not have children, as experienced and narrated by three scientists ranging from doctoral student to tenured mid-career professor to senior scholar.

Biological constraints upon fertility are discussed with regard to novel techniques for charting and predicting fertility and its decline, thereby enabling women to plan more effectively to accomplish fulfilled personal and parental lives alongside rewarding careers. Challenges inherent in the twin roles of parent and scientist are juxtaposed, as the narrators tell their own stories and explain their personal decisions regarding parenthood and career.
