"A Half-Century of Friends, Foreign Policy, and Great Losers"

On Tuesday, April 25, over 2,000 Cornellians gathered in New York City's Beacon Theatre to hear Professor Walter LaFeber deliver his farewell public lecture before retiring in June. As he is famous for doing, LaFeber delivered the lecture without notes. He discussed the modern history of American foreign policy and the expansion of democracy.

LaFeber is one of the nation's preeminent historians on American foreign affairs and one of Cornell's best-loved professors. His expertise covers a wide range of topics—from the history of pre-Revolutionary times to the Cold War to basketball great Michael Jordan.
