Message from Cornell Police Chief Kathy Zoner

September 4, 2013

I am writing to you because earlier today the university received a threat we determined not to be credible. Moreover, the time frame of the threat already has elapsed. Out of an abundance of caution, I am asking for your collaboration to say something if you see something unusual as you go about your normal day.

Specifically, here is what you can do to help:

  • Please take seriously all threatening communications received today and forward them to cup-dispatch@cornell.edu.
  • If you see anything suspicious, call 607-255-1111.
  • Check in on your friends and colleagues to be sure they are doing fine.

Again, there is no active threat at this time. Nevertheless, the university is asking you to be vigilant because your safety is paramount to the well-being of our community. We will provide updates on cuinfo.cornell.edu if appropriate. For additional plans and resources regarding your personal emergency preparedness, please go to emergency.cornell.edu.

Thank you for your collaboration and your continued partnership in keeping our community safe.

Kathy Zoner
Chief, Cornell University Police
