SPEAKER: Cornell University offers financial aid for US citizens and eligible non-citizens on the basis of a family's financial need. There are three main steps to completing a financial aid application at Cornell. These are required each year you wish to be considered for aid.
Step one, complete the FAFSA. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA determines your eligibility for the low-interest Federal Direct Loan as well as federal and state grants. Step two, complete the CSS Profile. The College Board CSS Profile will help determine your eligibility for Cornell's institutional aid. This online application asks similar questions about your parent's income as the FAFSA and will ask about your family assets in more detail.
Step three, tax returns and supplements-- we require copies of completed tax returns from biological or adoptive parents, any step parents, and the student. The tax returns should include all schedules, W2s, and 1099s. If any of these parties did not or will not file a tax return, they should submit a non-filer statement along with documentation of their earnings for the year. Cornell also requires the student and one parent to sign our certification form attesting that all information provided is accurate.
Application requirements and deadlines vary by how you are applying for admission or if you are a current student, so refer to our website to get exact requirements based on your circumstances. Applicants can also log in to see their personalized to-do list online and should monitor the to-do list regularly to ensure completion. Because financial aid can be a very important factor in financing your college education, it is important to meet Cornell's financial aid deadlines each year in order to receive aid information prior to admission deposit deadlines and upper-class registration. Please visit our website for additional information, and contact our office if you have any questions.
