To mark the 90th birthday of Charles F. “Chuck” Feeney ’56, the founding chairman of The Atlantic Philanthropies and the university’s most generous donor, the former East Avenue at the heart of Cornell’s central campus has been renamed “Feeney Way” to honor him. Feeney quietly devoted his fortune to worldwide causes for decades, including nearly $1 billion to Cornell over a four-decade period. His and Atlantic’s very first investment in Cornell established The Cornell Tradition program, an undergraduate fellowship program combining work, service, and scholarship opportunities to instill a strong work ethic in civic-minded students. Several current Tradition fellows speak about Feeney’s “giving while living” philosophy and his ongoing impact on their Cornell experience.
