Stanford climatologist Stephen Schneider spoke at Cornell on April 29, 2009 as part of the Climate Change Forum, an initiative of Cornell faculty in the natural sciences, engineering, social sciences and humanities.
Schneider explained that although vigorous research, development and deployment of more efficient systems and low carbon emitting sources is feasible over the next few decades, our dependence on carbon-based fuels will not easily be overcome. Therefore, adaptation strategies are needed to deal with "in-the-pipeline" climate change, and mitigation activities will be needed to deal with impacts to which we cannot easily adapt.
