The Joint Annual Meeting featuring Kraig Kayser, MBA '84, Chair of the Cornell University Board of Trustees, and Arturo Carrillo '96, MEng '97, Chair of the Cornell University Council. President Martha E. Pollack's State of the University Address will follow, leading to an inspiring Keynote Program after a short break.

Keynote Program: Artificial Intelligence and Free Expression

Artificial Intelligence is here and changing our everyday lives faster than we can keep up with. At the same time, free expression is being challenged from all angles. And with the explosion of natural language processing and public access to generative AI tools like ChatGPT, technology is rapidly shaping how human beings express themselves, get work done, understand their societies, and interact with others.

Kavita Bala, dean of the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science and steering committee member of the “The Indispensable Condition: Freedom of Expression at Cornell” initiative, will lead a panel discussion on the profound impact of AI on speech and free expression.

Faculty from across colleges and campuses will explore the challenges new technologies bring: ethical content moderation, personal and social expression, global perspectives on AI, its impact on democracies and policy, the First Amendment, harnessing technology for the public good, and more.

Learn how Cornell is leading the way and why we’re uniquely positioned to shape AI’s and our own future.
