A tiny transparent roundworm, C. elegans, allows Jun Liu to study in live time how cells communicate as they divide and differentiate as an organism grows. Liu, professor of molecular biology and genetics at Cornell University, received a multimillion dollar grant from the NIH for promising research on a protein signaling pathway crucial to bone and cardiovascular development.
