Systems biology and synthetic biology are emerging fields that try to tackle complex biological questions from a system engineering perspective, rather than looking at one reaction a time.
Xiling Shen uses computational tools to model and analyze biological systems, and builds scalable, modular biological parts and devices for biofuel, nanotechnology, gene therapy, and drug delivery applications.
Shen is an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at Cornell.
