Franchising important to the economy, especially in the hospitality sector, where businesses can use franchisees to expand more quickly than they could through company ownership alone. Tashlin Lakhani recently published two papers on human resource in franchise businesses, finding that, on average, franchisees under-invest in high performance HR practices which have proven to be linked to improved organizational performance, unless they have received clear guidance from the company on sound HR practices and their implementation.
